Navigating to the Power Plant in Pokémon FireRed is a crucial milestone for trainers seeking to complete their Kanto Pokédex or capture legendary Electric-type Pokémon. Situated in a secluded corner of Route 10, this abandoned facility requires specific field moves to access. Understanding the exact route prevents unnecessary backtracking and saves valuable time during your journey.

Required Field Moves and Prerequisites

Before attempting to travel to the Power Plant, your party must possess a Pokémon capable of using the move Surf outside of battle. You can obtain the Surf HM inside the Safari Zone in Fuchsia City after earning the Soul Badge. Having a reliable Flash user or repels will also make traversing the nearby routes much smoother.

Starting Route from Cerulean City

To begin your journey, travel east from Cerulean City onto Route 9 and battle your way through the local trainers. Continue heading eastward until you cross over into the northern portion of Route 10 near the Rock Tunnel entrance. Locate the Pokémon Center positioned just outside the cave entrance to prepare your team for the journey.

Navigating the Waterway to the Facility

From the Route 10 Pokémon Center, head directly north towards the fence surrounding the riverbank. Activate Surf on the water and follow the winding river channel as it flows downwards and to the left. Continue floating along this linear aquatic path until you spot a land mass housing a large industrial building on your right.

Exploring Inside the Abandoned Power Plant

Once you step off the water and enter through the front doors, you will find yourself inside an unmanned building filled with wild Electric-type Pokémon like Pikachu, Voltorb, and Magnemite. Be careful when picking up items on the ground, as several fake Poké Balls are actually aggressive Voltorb or Electrode encounters in disguise. Deep within the winding hallways of the facility, patient trainers can locate the legendary bird Zapdos waiting at the very end.
